Helpful Reminder
Don't ask/hint OOC that you wish to Rp with someone.
As stated in our server rules, we prefer you let interactions happen organically through in character actions. Avoid OOC statements that pressure others for play, such as:
((Can I join?))
((Is this still open?))
((I'd like to play!))
((Do you think my character would be a good match?))
((JOIN!! US!!!))
So on and so forth.
Around here, you cast a line and wait to see if you get a bite. Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't! It's low pressure for all. Never attempt to force RP, throw tantrums or guilt trip others. Campfire's casual atmosphere is meant to be an escape.
Users can self assign tags that let others know if they're comfortable with others asking to join their campfire game through DMs. (Detailed on the rules page.)

Starting Tips
How to get IC:
Start with an entry post!
An entry post lets you position your character in the game, but doesn't commit you to anything. You can enter a character with the intent to play immediately- or with the intent to observe for a little while and see if anything catches your fancy.
How to stay available:
Self-narrate!
Self narration is, for lack of a better word, filler. It's handy for letting people know you're still IC and still interested in playing, especially in busy games where your entry post may be scrolled up quickly. They’re usually short, introverted posts that glimpse what your character is up to or move it about the play area.
How to manage the chaos:
Take your time! It's okay to skim posts.
Feel free to let yourself and your character get situated. Just like it would be uncommon to have one person trying to address people scattered across a space in real life, you don't need to include or interact with absolutely everyone. How and when a character interacts with others can say as much about them as a speech.

Using Bolds
Bolds are for letting others know you have referenced them in your post. They're also optional. In a busy environment like Campfire, there can be some information overload if you try to read everything. Bolds make it possible for players to find bits that might be important to them in the mayhem.
Example: He didn't see the dog, but he did catch Katy's look.
The player in control of Katy will be able to easily find a reference to her character. Alternatively, a description works just as well.
Example: He didn't see the dog, but he did catch the girl by the fire looking his way.
Over a course of several posts, or even longer, the characters or circumstances can decide if they're going to interact further than a glance. You don't need to reference everything or every character just because you see them or are saying hello.
Bolds are not a commitment.
Sometimes they are just a reference and they may be overlooked just as a headnod can be.
Be conservative.
Bolds work best when they are used to highlight a couple names or descriptions. Overuse of bolding can make it difficult to see useful information at a glance, which defeats the purpose.

Post Length
Server minimum is a range of 130 - 150 words. We're not interested in policing play-styles or counting words. Our goal is to keep the para Rp spirit alive, as well as making sure everyone gets enough to respond to. Dipping under the minimum is allowed in some circumstances:
- Occasional: It's okay to go one or two rounds short as long as you cycle back to long and are being respectful of your partner's needs- but don't make it a habit or take advantage of the situation.
- Self narration: If your character is not currently interacting with someone and you wish to keep appearances up in a busy channel.
- Even in short post circumstances, you should not dip below 100 words.
- Always give your partner the attention they deserve (don't spread yourself too thin).
- Avoid epidemics. Staff may nudge a chat if it appears everyone playing has gone under the bar and it's getting out of hand.
Making the best of the channels.
Locations:
Channel names represent ‘world’s with certain themes. They're there as a hub that sets the general ground rules and expectations for the channel. For example, while it is easiest to meet at the tavern in #cats-tail-tavern, there are plenty of folks that wander the world and may have been drawn to an event or predicament further away. It's okay to explore a channel's theme further than its perceived boundary. If that means visiting the wilderness nearby, go for it!

Scenes:
It is completely okay for multiple scenes and locations within a channel to be used. For example, one scene may be happening in one part of the tavern, another may be happening across the room, or even a few miles away in the forest. Feel free to spread out.
If you would like to join an in progress scene, it’s okay to sidle your character over in an unobtrusive way that gives the players already involved the option to either notice something about your character or their actions, or to ignore them if they aren’t ready.
